Chapters 9, 10 & 11.
Chapter nine focuses on cognitive learning, strategies, and ways to think. It started with metacognition. Metacognition is thinking about thinking. It is a way of thinking about something abstractly which connects the rest of the chapter by going on to talk about learning strategies, problem-solving, creativity, critical thinking, and transfer. For myself thinking about the definition of metacognition is thinking about thinking and then actually having a part in the chapter about creativity was really exciting!
The other thing I noticed and got excited about in the chapter is that there is actually a reason why I have an issue with word problem-solving. The Heuristics in this chapter explained a lot of it. It is making quick judgments based on our schemas for the problem.
Chapter 10 discusses different fields of education. This was done using constructivism. The different fields are psychology, philosophy, psychology, anthropology and so many more. Constructivism is how knowledge is created, and it is talked about in two ways: psychological and social. Psychological study individual knowledge, beliefs, self-concepts, and identities or the inner life of people. While social focuses not on personal learning but on, "public knowledge in disciplines such as science, math, economics, or history" (Woolfolk 375.)
And chapter 11 is the social views of learning and Motivation. This chapter focused on A LOT of self-regulation. This hit home for some of the things I struggle with because of anxiety. Self-regulation is not always easy, especially the motivation part.
However, while reading this chapter and reading the section titled "Development of Self-Regulation) I started questioning the group assignments when I was paired with someone who I considered lazy or not doing their part of the project. I did this because co-regulation is based on feedback direct teaching and coaching from teachers parents or peers while shared regulation happens when students work together to regulate each other through reminders, prompts, and other guidance." (Woolfolk pg 425) It made me wonder if they were actually lazy or they really had no idea how to regulate themselves to do their projects...
I liked your insight into these chapters and how you can really relate to what we are learning!
