The
Woolfolk text gives a good perspective on what a good teacher is. It shows what a good teacher looks like, and
the risk of being a bad teacher even to the level of cost. Having a business background that made a lot
of sense to me where it did not before.
I never thought about how poor teaching can effect the community other
than a wasted salary. Woolfolk mentioned
how poor teaching affected test scores which effects the funding for the
schools. But how about the fact that it
limits the students’ ability to be great and be a contributing member to
society? You can risk losing a child to
the system which could be a drain on the community.
Another
thing that I am concerned with being an effective teacher is how to properly
plan. Charlotte Danielson’s Framework
for teaching (Figure 1.1 on page 10) is a great roadmap for a new teacher like
me. I’m sure I’m going to have 1st
day jitters, but with proper preparation and using Domain 1 and 2, this should
help get me on the right track. Because I’m planning
on teaching business Domain 3 and 4 will have to be modeled throughout the
course.

Kevin, I have to agree with the importance of being an effective teacher. After reading the Woolfolk text I too see the difference a good teacher can make. I do think I will be nervous my first year of teaching, but with the proper guidance I know I can be an effective teacher. The Danielson's Framework provides an easy to follow outline that is an invaluable tool for new teachers.
ReplyDeleteThanks Melinda, I'm glad I'm not alone. I currently work at Joliet West High School and love it there. I hope to be place for student teaching and get a permanent position there. The faculty and staff are awesome and I'm sure they will help me as well.
DeleteHi Kevin,
ReplyDeleteI like how you put Danielson's graphic in your blog post. I also worry about properly planning my lesson plans - will I plan to cover too much and not have enough time or will I not have enough planned and then my students will be bored and possibly get rowdy. I'm sure it's something we'll learn over time as we get more experienced, but Danielson's framework will be a nice tool to have on hand.

Hey Kevin,
ReplyDeleteI think all of us are going to have 1st day jitters however, as you stated looking at Charlotte Danielson's Framework for teaching we will have a roadmap to go by. This will help make us awesome teachers. Have a blessed evening.
Kevin,
ReplyDeleteLesson planning is going to be tough for me. Even as a coach now, its tough to fit everything in and I tend to focus on something too long and that scares me as a future teacher planning accordingly.
I hope we both get placed in a school with strong veteran staff support.
DeleteHi, Kevin!
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with you about the effect both good and bad teachers have on a community. High crime, low income areas need good teachers with effective teaching strategies and an open mind to help these students achieve academic success, and lifelong success. I like how the Woolfolk text offers good teaching strategies for different learners.I think it will be helpful for all of us in our future classrooms.
